RICHMOND, Va. – (Thursday, March 23, 2023) – The Richmond Kickers Youth Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Nick Rich as a fulltime program director effective April 1s, 2023. Rich is set to coach three girls travel teams (U19 Elite Black, U17 Elite Black, U15 Elite Red) for the upcoming 2023-24 season as well as overseeing the club’s brand-new Speed Agility Quickness (SAQ) and girl’s injury prevention programs.

“This is a great opportunity for me to come into a fantastic club and work with a group of people who have the same mindset as me,” Rich said. “I am passionate about helping young players reach their full potential on and off the field. When I met with Leigh and he explained the club’s future, it seemed like an excellent fit. I have coached against Kickers teams for years and have always been impressed with the quality and professionalism of the clubs’ coaches and the attitudes of their players. I’m excited to get started!”

Rich spent five years as a director of coaching for VSA in northern Virginia, before moving back to Richmond to become a firefighter in Chesterfield County. During his time with VSA he oversaw the boys high school age groups and ran all additional club programming, from camps to technical training. He also assisted with the boys VDA program during his time at VSA. Rich currently holds his USSF C license, National Youth License, NASM Speed Agility & Quickness certificate, NASM Youth Exercise Specialization certificate and is a nationally registered EMT.

Prior to coaching, Rich’s playing background is extensive, starting at Chelsea F.C.’s youth academy from U7-U14 and representing the England School Boys U18 squad. Arriving in the USA in 2008, Rich played at Tusculum College and then transferred to VCU where he wore the captain’s armband for the Rams. He also had a spell playing professionally in the Costa Rica Premier Division and won a NPSL National title with RVAFC.

“Nick has extensive playing, coaching and program director experience and will be a fantastic addition to our full-time coaching staff,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Youth Club Executive Director. “He is passionate about the game and is committed to making a difference within our club. His high-level playing experience coupled with his strong character will serve the club well as we continue to create an unparalleled soccer experience for all our families.”
