The Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club is proud to announce the launch of our Coaching Mentorship Program. Aligning with our mission of developing and providing quality coaches, this program provides a comprehensive learning environment for coaches who want to expand their knowledge of the game and desire to coach at a higher level.
The program will provide candidates with opportunities to be involved with various programs our club offers. Candidates will be paired with a current coach in our club and work exclusively with them throughout the season. Candidates will learn the game-based methodology that we utilize throughout the club and how to use guided discovery efficiently when coaching. Other topics covered will include, but are not limited to, designing practice sessions, game analysis, coaching in the game, and player identification.
Using the Mentorship relationship, our experienced coaches will guide our candidates on their coaching educational journey. This program runs on a seasonal basis and at the conclusion, each candidate will review their progress with their mentor and the Coaching Education Director. Candidates will then be provided with recommendations on future coaching placements within our club. Additionally, there will be opportunities for candidates to attend coaching clinics that are delivered by guest speakers. We recently hosted VYSA Technical Director Gordon Miller, who delivered “Coaching in the Game: How to read your opponent and make adjustments accordingly” clinic for our travel coaches.
“I have been working on this project for quite some time”, commented Perry Richards, Director of Coaching Education. “We wanted to develop a program that truly benefits our coaches that enroll in the mentorship. We are here to provide them with a meaningful experience that contributes to their coaching journey. This program is for coaches who are committed to their own development and want to grow beyond where they are right now.”
