Top Division Becomes ECNL Regional League - Virginia

April 22, 2021 (Fairfax, VA) – The ECNL Regional League - Virginia announces Beach FC, and SOCA have accepted invitations to join Loudoun Soccer, Virginia Legacy and Fredericksburg FC as new members for 2021-22.

“Adding two more of the top clubs in Virginia with proven leadership and in markets where we have not traditionally had teams in Beach FC and SOCA aligns with our vision to improve the number of meaningful games, lessen travel and unify youth soccer in Virginia,” said VPSL President Mike Cullina. “We are not only adding quality organizations that share our vision for improving the game-day experience of our players and coaches, but impressive leaders who will provide us with invaluable perspectives and inputs to improve the everyday environment for all our member clubs.”

“The youth soccer landscape has become more complex over the years, and we at Beach FC believe that taking this step will cement our resolve to ultimately compete at the top of the ECNL Pyramid. Residing in the “cul-de-sac” of the state has always provided us certain challenges, both with pathways and travel; but as regional and national platforms evolve, we felt this was the right time to make a move and we welcome new challenges and opportunities.” Beach FC Executive Director - Steve Danbusky

"SOCA is excited to join the ECNL Regional League. This league provides a competitive platform that will be instrumental in our player development pathway. The leadership and vision of the ECNL have created a stable environment allowing high quality competition in Virginia with access to regional and national opportunities. Our players and coaching staff are eager to take on this new challenge and to showcase the talent in the Charlottesville area. We look forward to great competition with many of the best clubs in the state." SOCA Director of Coaching - Jimmy Tharpe

VPSL is expected to release the 2021-22 final membership, competition structure and league enhancements in the coming days. Additionally, the league is exploring options to create entry points for more clubs and teams to earn their way into the Regional League division.

Virginia Premier Soccer League (VPSL) recently announced it was joining the ECNL Boys Regional League and will now refer to its top division as ECNL Regional League - Virginia. VPSL managed the first league pilot for the Girls Regional League in 2019 and joins a growing number of leagues across the country to unify the player and club pathway.
