Becomes First Kickers Team to Win the Top Bracket at the Jefferson Cup

This past weekend, our U12 Richmond Kickers Elite Red made history by winning the top bracket of the prestigious Jefferson Cup Tournament.

The boys kicked off the event against Valencia CF Academy, the #3 ranked team in New York.  After a sluggish start, the boys gained momentum throughout the game and cruised to a 6-0 victory. In their second match of the weekend on Saturday afternoon, they met the #2 ranked team in Florida. Coming back from 2-1 down, the boys rallied for two second-half goals to defeat the Academia Metodo Coira’s 3-2.  Two victories on Saturday assured them a place in the semi-final match.

Sunday morning the team faced another outstanding opponent: Michigan’s #2 ranked team, the Nationals Oakland 2009 Boys. An inspiring performance led to a solid 3-0 win, guaranteeing their spot in the Jefferson cup Final.

This was the first time any Richmond Kickers team reached the final of the Jefferson Cup top bracket. Their opponent was DOXA, the #2 ranked team in New York. Though the game was a tight 1-1 at the break, two second-half goals opened up a commanding lead for the Kickers.

The U12 boys secured victory in the final minutes with an outstanding defensive performance, allowing them to become the first Richmond Kickers team in history to win the top bracket of the Jefferson Cup.

A remarkable accomplishment for both the boys and the club.
