Former Kickers Youth Players Help in Early Season Success for VCU

Rams Win First Two Matches of the Season with a Combined 6-0 Scoreline

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, February 12, 2021) – VCU Women’s Soccer have started their season with two straight victories over Liberty University and Old Dominion University on Monday and Thursday respectively at Sports Backers Stadium. Former Richmond Kickers youth and Richmond United players Sammy Jerabek and Lyndsey Gutzmer are leading the attack for the Rams in both wins.   
 
In the home opener against Liberty, Sammy Jerabek served in a great ball from the left side to Lyndsey Gutzmer who redirected a header into the top shelf  for the first goal of the game midway through the second half. Late in the second half, Sammy Jerabek drew a penalty and converted a well-placed shot in the right corner to seal the deal for the Rams.
 
Three days later, the Rams hosted longtime rivals Old Dominion. Sammy Jerabek scored her first hat trick of her career, adding three spectacular second half goals.Current Richmond Kickers youth coach Emma Kershner added two assists to complete the 4-0 decisive defeat, leading the Rams to a 2-0-0 record to open the season.
