Former Pro Player Assumes New Role Within Youth Club

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, February 28, 2019) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the promotion of Owusu Sekyere to Director of Technical Development and Camps. 

"Individual development of players has always been my passion,” said Sekyere. “I look forward to this new role and the opportunity to help players improve their confidence and technical proficiency on the soccer ball.”

Sekyere’s day to day role will consist of increasing the technical proficiency of all players at the club through the introduction of our new Technical Training Program. He will also be overseeing all of the Richmond Kickers camp programs, while continuing to serve as a youth coach in the youth club’s Elite travel program.

“Owusu is the perfect fit for this new position,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Youth Club Executive Director. “His energy and passion for the Kickers, soccer and learning are infectious and he will no doubt continue to make a significant developmental impact on all players who participate in our camp and new technical training programs.”

Holding a USSF “C” License, Sekyere previously served as the youth club's Assistant Technical Director. The Ghanian also made 96 appearances with the Kickers pro team, scoring nine goals and added 12 assists over four seasons. A standout at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2006-2009, the midfielder previously made 28 appearances with the Charlotte Eagles in 2014.
