Richmond United Announces Preseason ID Camp

Open to Male U10-U15 Travel Players, July 29-August 3

Richmond United Development Academy is thrilled to offer the club’s first annual Preseason ID Camp, July 29 through August 3, 2019 at the beautiful grass fields of Richmond Strikers West Creek Complex.

Open to all male U10-U15 travel players (players born 2005 - 2010), the camp will be held at the ideal time prior to the fall travel season. Players interested in the Development Academy program will experience Richmond United’s environment while also showcasing their abilities in front of the coaching staff.

Richmond United Academy Director Sascha Görres will lead one of the most experienced coaching staffs in the region, which includes high-level, nationally recognized coaches such as:

  • Will Bates, U12 and U16 Richmond United Head Coach and Richmond Strikers U11-12 Director of Coaching, former UVA standout, drafted by MLS Seattle Sounders, USSF C-License
  • Mike Burke, Richmond Kickers U11-14 Technical Director, Richmond Kickers Pro Legend, USSF B-License  
  • Mike Callahan, U17 and U19 Richmond United Head Coach, former UNC and Richmond Kickers Pro standout, former Richmond Kickers Pro Assistant Coach, USSF B-License
  • Gabriel Colon, U13 and U14 Richmond United Head Coach, former New York Red Bulls and Orlando City youth coach, USSF B-License
  • Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Executive Director, former Richmond Kickers Pro Head Coach, USSF A-License
  • Matthew Delicate, Richmond United Assistant Coach, Richmond Kickers Pro All-Time Leading Scorer, USSF A-License
  • Joseph DeMartino, Richmond United and Fredericksburg FC Director of Goalkeeping, USC Goalkeeper License
  • Don Hughes, Richmond United Futsal Director, Powhatan Soccer Association Technical Director, Director of Own Touch Southside, USSF A-License

The weeklong camp consists of five morning sessions (Monday-Friday), two evening scrimmages (Tuesday-Thursday) and a Saturday festival session.

Throughout the week, players will experience many different types of soccer situations to improve decision making in attack and defense. Camp participants will play games that replicate the physical, technical, and tactical demands of the real game and provide a level of resistance and challenge that is ideal for enjoyment and improvement.

Additionally, players will experience the beautiful game through the Richmond United DA’s philosophy on soccer by working together as a team, taking ownership in the development process and enjoying the freedom to find creative solutions and express themselves.
